Google Fiber opens more Johnson County signups. Merriam is now part of the latest fiberhood signups announced by Google Fiber for its high speed Internet and television service in Johnson County. The latest neighborhoods also include parts of Lenexa and Shawnee. No word on when it comes to Prairie Village and other parts of northeast Johnson County. Roeland Park, Westwood, Mission Woods and Westwood Hills are the only NEJC cities to have signups. Roeland Park east of Roe still needs more signups to qualify.
Brownback releases “internal” poll to counter latest SurveyUSA results. The Brownback campaign on Tuesday night released an internally conducted poll that puts the incumbent ahead of challenger Paul Davis 43-42. A message from campaign spokesman John Milburn said the release was in response to the latest poll released by SurveyUSA Tuesday that showed Davis maintaining a significant lead over Davis at 48-40. “SurveyUSA has a history of inaccurate polling and this latest release from the organizaton is more of the same,” said John Milburn. Prairie Village Emerald Ash Borer meeting tonight. Prairie Village will hold its open house meeting on its planned response to the Emerald Ash Borer threat tonight. Residents will be able to ask public works officials about the plans to remove certain ash trees and what factor are going into the decision of whether or not to treat ash trees instead of removing them. The meeting will run 5-7 p.m. at the Prairie Village Community Center.
State representatives on panel today. Rep. Melissa Rooker, Rep. Stephanie Clayton and Sen. Pat Pettey will participate in a MainStream Coalition forum today at 10 a.m. at the Corinth Library branch. The session is billed as a Conversation with Women Legislators.
Franklin Park trail closure postponed. The Franklin Park repair project that had been slated to close the trail there today has been postponed, city officials announced yesterday. They say the project should be rescheduled for sometime in the next couple weeks.
SM East football Blue/Black Scrimmage set for Friday. SM East football boosters are encouraging Lancer football fans to bring their “lawn chairs, the neighbors, and your unmatched enthusiasm,” for the annual Blue/Black Scrimmage Friday that serves as the unofficial start of the 2014 season. In addition to the scrimmages, Chick-fil-A, Sheridan’s and San Antonio Street Tacos will be on hand vending food, and there will be a football-style obstacle course set up for the kids. The event will run 5-8 p.m. at the SM East turf football field. Check out the preview video below.
