Water main break sends water shooting on Johnson Drive. Crews working on the Johnson Drive rebuild hit an eight-inch water main late Wednesday afternoon, sending water shooting above building height. The crews were digging deep into the north side of the street west of Beverly to place large storm water boxes when the main was struck. The heavy equipment shovel was placed over the gushing water to block the geyser and send the leaking water down through the underground storm system until Water One could make repairs.
Early indications show higher enrollment in Shawnee Mission. The Shawnee Mission School District had approximately 300 more students at the start of the school year than the same time last year, Superintendent Jim Hinson reported to the board this week. Official enrollment figures are not compiled until September.
Schowengerdt to represent Catholic Church in same sex marriage case. Dale Schowengerdt, the son of Mission mayor Steve Schowengerdt who spoke out against Roeland Park’s proposed anti-discrimination ordinance, has been hired to defend the Catholic Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph in a case brought by a woman who claims she was fired for being in a same sex marriage. Chet Kuplen of ESPN 100.7 out of Pittsburg recently interviewed SM East and Bishop Miege head football coaches Dustin Delaney and Jon Holmes about their upcoming seasons.
