Mission Police raise $1,589 for Special Olympics. Officers from the Mission Police Department waited tables last week to raise money for Special Olympics in their “Tip a Cop” event at Johnny’s BBQ in Mission. The officers raised $1,589 in three hours of waiting and busing tables.
North Leawood’s Fred Logan named district co-chair for northeast Kansas. Northeast Johnson County attorney Fred Logan has been named as the regional co-chair of Gov. Sam Brownback’s reelection campaign. Brownback appointed Logan to the Kansas Board of Regents in 2011 and Logan has been a longtime member of the Shawnee Mission School District’s Committee for Excellence. “This is a critical time for Kansas. We must continue the progress made by the Brownback administration in promoting economic growth and excellence in education,” Logan said in a statement announcing the appointment.
How to say goodbye at Fairway pool? While municipal pools in the area are starting their back-to-school hours today and will run on the revised schedule through the traditional Labor Day closings, Fairway is looking for a way to say so long to the pool in its current form. The pool will undergo a major renovation between now and opening day next season. The city is looking for suggestions on ways to celebrate the past of the existing pool and the future of the new pool. Ideas can be passed along to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Roeland Park night out benefits Community Center and community. Roeland Park’s National Night Out, part of a national event to promote community safety, drew a crowd to the parking lot behind city hall last week. Extra food that had been donated for the event was taken to the community center. The event was sponsored by the Roeland Park Police Department.
Barn Players production nominated for award. The Barn Players production of “August: Osage County” has been nominated for Outstanding Play of the Year award by the International Music and Entertainment Association. Cast members and staff also have been nominated for awards including actors Stasha Case, Tim Alhlenius, Barb Nichols and Greg Butell; Darren Sextro for directing; Crain McCann for lighting; Frank Polleck for set design. The public may vote for the nominees on the IMEA website.
