Born in 1937, Nelson was a well-known banker who came to Kansas City to start working for Boatmen’s Bank here in 1988 and eventually became head of Bank of America’s regional operations. Nelson was involved in a number of civic organizations, including the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce, the Heart of American United Way, and the Kansas City Repertory Theatre, among others.
Nelson attended Yale University and was able to pay his way through school with scholarships and through work. He attended graduate school in business at the University of Pittsburgh. He and his wife Barbara had three sons, Christopher, Graham and David. The Nelsons were married 42 years.
Visitations are scheduled 5-7 p.m. today and 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at DW Newcomer’s Sons Stine & McClure Chapel, 3235 Gillham Plaza in Kansas City, Mo. There will be a memorial service at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Village Presbyterian Church.
