Johnson County Feed the Need campaign raises 138 tons of food. The Johnson County government’s recent Feed the Need food drive raised more than 138 tons of food for county food pantries. Started in 1987, the annual campaign works to raise funds and food to directly benefit pantries service Johnson County residents. Last year, the campaign raised more than 127 tons of food.

Last Mission Artwalk of the season tonight. The Mission Artwalk will hold its third and final event of the 2014 season tonight with local artists, music and food. The event will be held on Dearborn south of Johnson Drive. Parking is available in the overflow lot across the street from Sylvester Powell Community Center.
21-gun salute in Prairie Village cemetery set for Saturday. Shoppers at the Countryside East annual garage sale going on today and Saturday might get a bit of a jolt if they are in the neighborhood Saturday afternoon. Residents were advised that a 21-gun salute is planned Saturday afternoon at the Highland Cemetery that lies just to the south of Hodges. Burials are infrequent at the 19th Century cemetery that has some familiar names, such as the Nall family, in residence.
Prairie Village comic book writer Jason Aaron featured in The Pitch. This week’s issue of The Pitch features Jason Aaron, the Prairie Village resident who has gained considerable notoriety in the comic book world for his work on titles like Scalped and The Other Side. Recently, Aaron has been tapped to write a storyline for Thor in which a woman becomes the hero. He’s also writing the story for a new series of Star Wars comic books with events that take place between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back.
