The Roeland Park Police Department will host National Night Out from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 5 in the parking lot behind City Hall.
Police Chief John Morris said it has been three years since the city had an event to mark the annual night, which is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch. The night is “for the community,” Morris said. Hotdogs, chips and water will be offered, a DJ will be providing music and there will be games for the kids.
The block captains from the new community watch program will be asked to attend. “It’s like a community wide crime watch meeting,” Morris said. “We would like people to come out and meet the police department.”
The department will be displaying its new vehicles, have a restored 1962 fire truck to show along with a touch-a-truck/wrecker service.
Everything for the evening is being donated by local businesses.
