Get ready to switch sides when you head to Mission’s Johnson Drive. The reconstruction work is about to flip over which means the two open traffic lanes will jump to the south side of the street.
The change is expected to take place Tuesday morning. Traffic will run on the south side while work continues on some of the sidewalk projects on that side of the street. Sidewalks have been poured and parking areas re-established on large sections of the south side. With the change, the pavement and existing sidewalks will be removed on the north side.
The finished street will have four lanes of traffic with parking on each side with a few exceptions. Crews are maintaining two lanes of traffic during construction and access to all businesses with temporary walkways in front of the buildings.
The project, which is rebuilding Johnson Drive from storefront to storefront, is expected to be completed by November. The City of Mission has been sponsoring weekly $100 drawings to keep customers coming to the business district during the construction.
