Attention local aspiring Top Chef: Just Desserts competitors: You’ve got a chance to show off your stuff locally this Fourth of July before making the big time.
Prairie Village is for the second year in a row putting on Pie Baking Contest as part of its annual VillageFest celebration. Last year, more than 30 contestants baked up an entry.
All pies must be baked entirely from scratch, and can be entered into one of four categories: fruit, nut, other or youth. To enter the contest, you must submit a registration form via the city’s website here before June 27.
This year’s contest will be decided in part by returning judges Carter Holton, currently the pastry chef at the River Club, and our very own Julia Westhoff, of Food on Friday fame. Joining Carter and Julia at the judges’ table will be Emily Farris and Charles Ferruzza of the Food Critics on KCUR, and Julie Hansen, a recent bakery sciences graduate from K-State University.
Registered pies must be entered at the Harmon Park pavilion by 8:30 a.m. on the Fourth of July. The contest winners will be announced at 10:30 a.m. that day.
