A second candidate has entered the race for Johnson County Commissioner from the first district. The newest candidate is V. Alex DiCarlo, 3008 W. 72nd St. in Prairie Village.DiCarlo has joined Prairie Village Mayor Ron Shaffer in the race. Shaffer announced in November that was running for the seat to replace Ed Peterson who in October announced that he would challenge Ed Eilert for the chair of the county commission. Shaffer was first elected mayor in 1999 and has the longest running tenure of any mayor in Prairie Village history.
DiCarlo is unknown in local politics at this point. His campaign manager said today that DiCarlo was most recently a senior sales agent for SelectQuote, but that he would be seeking to make the commissioner’s position his full-time vocation. DiCarlo is a 2003 SM East graduate and attended KU from 2004-2008, according to his profile.
Former Mission Mayor Laura McConwell has said she is considering an entry into the race as well, but has not filed nor made an announcement about her candidacy. If she files, that would mean a primary election for the seat with the top two vote getters advancing to the November election.
