Northeast Johnson County’s two public high schools faced off on the baseball diamond Thursday, with SM East emerging with a 6-2 win over the Indians at SM North.
SM East’s Charley White pitched a full game, giving up three hits and striking out eight over seven innings. He got some solid support from the bats of seniors Trey Austin, who went four for four at the plate and drove in three runs, and Mitchell Tyler, who went two for four, scored twice and had two stolen bases.
The win takes SM East to 13-5 on the season, and keeps them in third place in the regional standings behind Blue Valley West and Olathe East. Blue Valley Northwest and Olathe South are just half a game behind SM East and Olathe East in the regional standings.
The loss dropped SM North to 5-14 on the season.
