A group of Briarwood parents spent Tuesday aggressively lobbying Shawnee Mission district administrators in hopes of keeping a portion of the Prairie Ridge subdivision from being shifted into the Tomahawk Elementary feeder pattern.
Some of the emails sent to Superintendent Jim Hinson argued that the current Briarwood feeder area west of Lamar Avenue, which includes many apartment buildings, should be shifted to Tomahawk instead because it represents a more “transient” population that hasn’t invested in the community by paying property taxes. Other Briarwood parents said they were offended by such characterizations.
