Each year about this time these toads (we assume they are toads) show up in the Prairie Village backyard water garden. First, it’s one or two and then the population starts building. It has now hit about seven about a week after the first appearance. The ruckus (singing?) lasts throughout most of the night and on overcast days such as Sunday it can carry on through most of the daytime hours as well.
In a few days, they will take their leave of the garden and move on – we assume with mission accomplished – not to be heard from again until next year. Any insights out there from amphibian experts about this behavior? Anyone else awakened by the racket?
