Now everyone who comes to Westwood Hills will know that they are in an historic district. The city has installed its National Historic District sign at 50th and State Line Road.
The entire city of Westwood Hills was designated as an historic district last November and is the only city in the State of Kansas or the metropolitan area to have the entire municipality earn the designation. The Friends of the Westwood Hills Historic Foundation paid for the design, fabrication and installation of the sign.
The city was placed on the Kansas Register of Historical Places last August. The J.C. Nichols Company platted the Westwood Hills subdivision in 1923 and established the Westwood Hills Homes Association in 1926. The city officially incorporated on July 1, 1949. The city has 175 homes.
