SM East grad golfer featured on KUSports.com. KUSports.com on Friday ran a feature story on 2013 SM East graduate Chase Hanna, who is heading into his first season of Big 12 play on the University of Kansas golf team. Hanna has made a quick name for himself at the college level, leading the KU team in six of the ten events they’ve played so far. He told KUSports that the talent level in the college game is impressive. “I think top-to-bottom it’s much different than even your premier junior events. “Top-to-bottom, every player is very talented and has the potential to go out there and play well,” he said. Roeland Park Community Center garage sale called off. The Roeland Park Community Center Bargain Bonanza scheduled for this Saturday has been cancelled. The number of vendors registered in advance was not sufficient to hold the sale this year.
Drug Take Back in four cities. The prescription drug drop-off Saturday will have three locations: Mission’s Sylvester Powell Community Center, Fairway’s Hen House, Roeland Park’s Price Chopper, and the Prairie Village Police Department. The drop-off is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Police departments are helping with the event. A recycling event will also be held from 8 a.m. to noon at Sylvester Powell.
Roeland Park Public Works Director leaving. Dave Mootz, Roeland Park’s Director of Public Works for 25 years will be leaving the job, but he is not going too far. Mootz will become the building maintenance supervisor at the Roeland Park Community Center. The community center is managed by the Johnson County Parks and Recreation District. Mootz had been in public works before becoming director and had been a Roeland Park police officer and worked with Northeast Johnson County animal control.
