Lega-C Properties, the company that manages The Village Shops and Corinth Square, announced Wednesday that the U.S. Postal Service had signed a lease at The Village Shops and anticipated opening a retail operation there this summer.
The Postal Service confirmed that it had signed a five year lease for the space at 6917 Tomahawk Road — between Ultramax Sports and Minsky’s — but said it could not offer a projected opening date at this time. The signing of the lease means the Postal Service will be moving all of its operations out of the facility on 73rd Terrace that has been the subject of closing speculation for nearly three years. The Postal Service’s lease on the 73rd Street facility expired in November 2013, but the agency extended it through September 2014. Once the current lease expires, the Postal Service will no longer have any presence in that building.
Postal Service spokesman Richard Watkins said the retail services offered in the new Village Shops space will mirror those offered at the 73rd Street facility. Post Office Box holders will retail their same addresses.
With the signing of the lease, all but one of the storefronts along Tomahawk — the space recently vacated by C. Jacks Quiche — will be filled. Pinot’s Palette has a lease in place to occupy the space vacated by Mady and Me.
