A group of burgeoning young engineers made quite an impression at a regional competition last month — and made a presentation to the Prairie Village City Council Monday that they hope will help earn them another honor.
The Brickheads, a club robotics team with students from Prairie Elementary and Indian Hills Middle School, won the “Presentation Award” in the First Lego League (FLL) regionals competition in January. More than 40 teams made presentations at that competition.
This year the FLL students were challenged to come up with an idea for a robot that could help during a natural disaster. The students came with the idea of a drone that would split into four with each mini-drone being able to scan a quadrant of the rubble field left by a tornado.
Now, the Brickheads are hoping to earn a grant to help build out their prototype. The presentation to the Prairie Village City Council Monday was part of their application process for the grant.
