If you’re one of those people waiting with bated breath for Google Fiber to start rolling out in northeast Johnson County, an item on tonight’s Leawood Planning Commission agenda might be of interest…
The Planning Commission is slated to consider a preliminary site plan for a Google “Fiber Hut,” one of the small structures that would house the equipment needed to bring gigabit Internet and television service to area homes. Leawood, which approved its agreement with Google in late August 2013, is the first northeast Johnson County city to have a Fiber Hut site plan submitted for approval.
The documents submitted for approval to the commission are notably absent of any proposed construction dates – but the plans do show that the proposed site for the hut is on city property just south of I-435, off of Lee Boulevard about 800 feet east of where it ends at its intersection with Mission Road (the area just west of the Leawood City Pool).
If you submit site plans for approval, construction can’t be too far behind, can it? (And maybe Hut site plans for other NEJC communities will follow as well?…)
