Kelly Kultala, former Kansas state senator from Wyandotte County, announced today that she will run for the Kansas congressional seat now held by Kevin Yoder.
Kultala has also served on the Piper School Board and as a commissioner for the Unified Government in KCK. She is a Democrat and not the only one to announce for the race against Yoder. Earlier, Reginald Marselus announced he would run for the seat.
In announcing her candidacy, Kultala said, “Washington these days reminds me of when my daughters were little and would fight over their toys – lots of finger pointing and name calling but nothing gets done. From helping businesses grow jobs, to improving public education, to cutting wasteful spending – the challenges we face are too important to let gridlock in Congress stand in the way of solutions.”
Kultala works as a public affairs consultant. She and her husband, Dan, have three grown daughters and three grandchildren.
Yoder won his first election to Congress in 2010. He replaced Dennis Moore who retired from the seat.
