The former Blockbuster location on Johnson Drive in Mission, long vacant since the demise of the video store, is about to come back to life.
Crews have been in the building starting a remodel over the last few weeks getting it ready for new tenants. Block Properties, which manages the location, says it will be divided into space for three tenants. The building is just across the street from the Mission West Shopping Center which is home to the Hobby Lobby store.
The building previously was home to both the Blockbuster store and a Subway, which also has moved from the location. One of the tenants, according to Block, is scheduled to be a physical therapist. One space is signed but Block was not yet at liberty to announce the tenant. A third space is still available for lease.
Plato’s Closet, a clothing re-seller, has announced on its site that it plans to locate a store at the 6620 Johnson Drive location soon. Plato’s Closet has stores in Overland Park, Lawrence and Lee’s Summit. The store buys trendy and basic used clothing and then re-sells them.
The Blockbuster building was part of a failed attempt at a Community Improvement District plan last year.
