A jogger hit by a car while crossing Shawnee Mission Parkway Saturday morning has been upgraded from critical to fair condition.
Mission Police said the male pedestrian in his 50s was heading south on Lamar and crossing SM Parkway when he was hit. One car was able to brake in time and avoid hitting the jogger, but a second eastbound car, driven by a female in her 30s, did not see him and could not avoid contact. She was not injured in the accident.
Capt. Ben Hadley said the jogger was taken to the hospital with a broken leg and lacerations to the head that required stitches, but the injuries were not life-threatening. Early reports indicate the jogger should not have entered the parkway and did not have a walk signal, police said.
The accident happened just before noon and disrupted traffic on Lamar and SM Parkway for a short time.
