Though, much like their counterparts on the boys team last spring, the team put in an excellent showing at regionals, the Lancers’ top performers during the regular season stumbled a bit in state play. Their overall performance, however, was still good enough for fourth place.
SM East’s Alex Maday and Sophie Wetzler were the only members of the team to shoot among the top 20 finishers, with both shooting 87 on the day. Those performances were good enough for Maday and Wetzler to be named 2nd Team All State. Olathe Northwest’s Audrey Judd finished first overall by shooting a 71.
The Lancers finished the day with 361 strokes over two rounds as a team. Washburn Rural took the overall state team title with a score of 339. Maize, 353, and Garden City, 355, came in second and third. Lawrence Free State was the only other Sunflower League team to place in the competition, coming in 11th overall.
