Wellsir, I’ve never claimed to be the hippest fellow around.
So when SM East principal John McKinney told me last week that the students had filmed a “lipdub,” I was all like, “Huh? What’s that?”
So Mr. McKinney told me to swing by the school this morning to give it a look. And then I was all like, “Uh huh!” Because what a lipdub it is!
So here’s the background: After a month of choreography, a little bit of legal work securing the rights to the song, and a royalty check made out directly to Steve Perry (seriously), 1,400 of SM East’s 1,600 students voluntarily showed up at school outside normal class hours last Thursday to film a 10-minute, single-shot video of the entire school singing along to Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’.”
I won’t delay getting to the video any longer than necessary, but suffice it to say it’s a pretty fun (if not always logical — I’m pretty sure I spied Bill Clinton doing some yoga cat-cows in there somewhere) watch.
What a great day to be a Lancer. Enjoy!:
