It’s Fairway’s turn to become the newest Google Fiber city. A network agreement between the city and Google Fiber is part of tonight’s Fairway City Council agenda.
Similar in form to the agreement that has been signed by other area cities, the contract provides for a five percent franchise fee payment on the part of Google Fiber and the promise of free service provided to an unspecified number of public or government-owned sites.
Google Fiber provides Internet connections with speeds up to one Gigabit as well as television service. An agreement with Fairway will mean almost all of northeast Johnson County communities have executed a contract. Just last week Roeland Park approved a deal and Prairie Village, Leawood and Mission have completed contracts in recent weeks.
