Food on Friday: A new meeting place for The Breakfast Club
By Julia Westhoff
On Sunday mornings I like to take my daughters out to breakfast. Correction: on Sunday mornings, I like to sleep. Unfortunately, no one else in my family does. And I’ve decided that if I am going to be up at 8 a.m. on a Sunday, I’d better have a cup of coffee and a carbohydrate in my hand. Plus, having it be a “girls only” outing gives Jay time at home to clean the house (as I’m writing this I’m starting to realize that what I’ve got going on is actually a pretty sweet deal).
We used to have a lovely routine of walking to Einstein’s in the Village, whereupon Olivia would get a yogurt parfait and I would get a bagel with lox. In warm weather we’d sit outside with the dog. Olivia would concentrate on her yogurt and I would silently curse all of those annoying runners who met there after their weekly workout (thanks for making the rest of us look bad).
Sadly, that Einstein’s is now closed, leaving a gaping hole in our breakfast routine. And let me tell you, I am having a darn difficult time locating a suitable substitution. Can anyone recommend a child-friendly restaurant/cafe that’s open at 8 a.m. on a Sunday?
