Car in fatal accident on Roe was stolen from KCK, say police

The trunk of the tree the car hit on Roe Avenue shows significant damage.

Prairie Village police have identified the man who died in last Monday’s fatal car accident in the 6700 block of Roe Avenue as Phillip J. Martin. Martin was 26 at the time of his death. His last known address was in Kansas City, Mo.

Investigators say Martin was driving a 2006 Suzuki Forenza that was reported as stolen prior to the accident. Police say it was stolen from a location in Kansas City, Kan., sometime between 8 p.m. Sunday night and the time of the crash early Monday morning.

The official report on the incident is not complete, but police say Martin was traveling at a high rate of speed and lost control of the vehicle. Toxicology results are not back from the lab.
