Snow clearing efforts set to continue throughout the day
The massive volume of snow that piled up over the course of a few short hours Thursday morning wreaked havoc on standard street-clearing strategies, preventing plows from cleaning streets before a thick layer of the white stuff had made travel treacherous. And though the snow has stopped falling, road and rescue crews have a day of hard work ahead of them freeing stranded vehicles and cleaning snow-packed sidestreets.
Prairie Village sent out the following update Friday morning:
Public Works crews have been working 24/7 to clear the streets. The majority of the residential streets were plowed last night. Crews will finish plowing residential streets and cul-de-sacs today. This is an initial pass. Plows will make streets passable, then return to thoroughfares and collectors, plowing and treating the road before coming back to complete residential streets.
Residents are reminded to move all vehicles from the roadway. This will allow the snowplows adequate space to plow and pre-treat streets. Also, the plows will create windrows in front of driveways. They are unavoidable. The city does not come back to clear private driveways.
