SM East senior earns largest scholarship in state of Kansas
First there was the news that she had been nominated as a Sweetheart Queen candidate.
Then came word that she’d won this year’s SM East theater “Gypsy Award” — given to the most outstanding member of a musical’s chorus — for her work in “The Drowsy Chaperone.”
And finally, this li’l tidbit: On Monday, Kansas State University officially announced that Tapp had been selected as one of two recipients of its Presidential Scholarship — the largest college scholarship in Kansas. The award will provide $20,000 a year for four years, totaling $80,000 in aid.
Mom Lisa Tapp said Gracie got the news the night after her day-long interview with K-State officials.
“She was completely surprised,” Lisa said.
Olathe East senior Riley Gay is this year’s other Presidential Scholarship recipient.
SM East senior Anne Recker was among the 11 finalists for the award, and will receive a four-year renewable scholarship for making the finalists list.
