Proposed state bill would strip cities of right to regulate open carry of firearms
Well, if a group of state legislators have their way, the whole issue may end up being moot.
The Kansas House’s Committee on Federal and State Affairs is considering a bill that would amend the language in state statutes relating to possession of firearms — and in doing so strip municipalities of the ability to pass their own ordinances governing the manner in which people may carry guns in their city limits.
You can read House Bill 2111 here.
Should the bill be passed into law, Prairie Village’s attempt to restrict the open carry of firearms would be preempted by the state’s statutes.
