Johnson County DA moves forward with case to oust Morrison from Prairie Village council

The Johnson County District Attorney is seeking to remove David Morrison from the Prairie Village City Council.

Johnson County District Attorney Steve Howe on Thursday announced that his office will seek to have Prairie Village City Council David Morrison ousted from office. The move comes after Morrison’s council peers voted unanimously in November to seek his removal from office following a bizarre incident in which he granted a homeless friend with a drug problem partially unrestricted access to city hall.

Howe’s office released the following statement Thursday afternoon:

Johnson County District Attorney Steve Howe announces that his office filed ouster  proceedings in Johnson County District Court against Prairie Village City Councilman David  Morrison today, January 17, 2013. The civil case number is 13CV407. DA Howe makes the following statement:

“Our office has alleged violations of criminal statutes including: criminal trespass,  theft, and official misconduct along with other facts to support this petition. Mr. Morrison’s actions are a breach of his duties and responsibilities as a Prairie  Village City Councilman and should result in his forfeiture of office pursuant to  K.S.A. 60-1205.”

UPDATED: Informed by PVPost.com that the District Attorney had formally filed the ouster case against him, David Morrison had this to say:

“This whole thing is politically motivated. We’ll continue to fight it in the interest of doing what’s right for Prairie Village and not letting a small group of people hurt the city. Clinton had sex with an intern in the Oval Office. And they’re ousting me for giving shelter to a homeless guy? Nah. That’s not right.”
