Briarwood Girl Scouts hope to spark community discussion on girl-on-girl bullying

Members of Troop 1117 packaging food for the Whole Foods Grab & Give program, which provides food to SMSD students on the free and reduced lunch program.

A group of local Girl Scouts are hoping to turn the money they raised selling cookies into a community discussion about bullying.

The girls of Troop 1117, made up of Briarwood Elementary 6th graders, raised more than $500 by selling Girl Scout cookies this year. They’re using the money to put on a public screening of “Finding Kind,” a documentary that explores girl-on-girl bullying experiences.

The screening will take place at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 23 in the SM East cafeteria. Tickets are $5 plus at $1.27 fee.

The troop is hoping to sell a total of 500 tickets to the event.
