Weather service predicting slippery New Year’s Eve

Traffic on Mission Road was light following the snowstorm earlier this month. Several inches of accumulation are expected today.

Looks like we’re in for a slippery New Year’s Eve, everyone.

The Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for the Kansas City area starting at 6 a.m. Monday and running through 6 a.m. Tuesday. Snow is expected to begin early and continue through early Monday afternoon. Forecasters expect a break Monday afternoon before a new wave of snowfall develops Monday night.

Total accumulations could be as high as five inches.

The near-freezing temperatures mean much of the snow could begin to melt Monday afternoon only to refreeze as slick ice Monday night — when New Year’s Eve revelers are hitting the roads.

Please drive safe out there.
