Video, photos detail new look for Mission Gateway project
If you want to know what the new Gateway will look like when it is completed, a set of renderings and a video from the developers gives the best picture yet of what to expect in the coming years at the corner of Shawnee Mission Parkway and Roe Avenue.
The depictions are part of the presentation the developer made this week to the Mission Planning Commission where the final site plan was approved.
The complete development plan and the subsequent financing will be voted on by the Mission City Council on Jan. 16.
Besides the 150,000 square foot Walmart anchor and Toby Keith’s Bar and Grill, the development will contain a significant number of other retailers and restaurants as well as a Sprouts Natural Grocery. It also will be home to 300 residential units and a multi-level parking garage.
A large open space and pedestrian plaza planned between two residential towers along Roeland Drive will include a fireplace, water feature, large screen for entertainment videos, landscaping and trailhead amenities for the adjacent bike trail. Almost 13,000 square feet of “private open space” will be provided near the residential buildings. A third residential building faces Johnson Drive.
On the Walmart side, at the corner of Roe and Johnson Drive, another large screen will be the focal point for welcoming customers. The Walmart building will have other retailers built over it.
The video is a “flyover” of the project. The renderings show the buildings from nearly every street angle. Click here to access all of the overview graphics.
