Scanlon closes the book on chapter as Mission city manager

Mike Scanlon (L), city administrator for Mission, greeted well wishers at a reception at Sylvester Powell Community Center on his last day of work for the city. Prairie Village Mayor Ron Shaffer and Georgia Nesselrode of the Mid-America Regional Council stopped by to talk with Scanlon.

Just as the signature east Gateway project finally may get under way in Mission, City Administrator Mike Scanlon has left his post with the city.

Scanlon has taken a town manager’s job in Basalt, Colo. Friday was Scanlon’s last day in Mission and the city honored him with a reception at the Sylvester Powell Jr. Community Center. The Gateway is the last high profile project in Scanlon’s 10-year career with the city and has the prospect of closing with a council vote in mid January. Originally, it had been scheduled for a vote Nov. 27 before Scanlon left.

Basalt is smaller than Mission, but lies just up the highway from Aspen, with world class skiing and trout fishing streams. The setting, Scanlon says, was a major attraction for the job.

No replacement has been named.
