With gingerbread parties, young and old make summer sweeter for PV youth
Kids from 1 to 92 shared in the Christmas spirit on Sunday — and helped a good cause in the process.
Dozens of seniors, parents and tots gathered in the Brighton Gardens common area for the annual Gingerbread House decorating parties benefiting the Prairie Village Municipal Foundation.
Mely Ballard of Mely’s Yogurt and Ice Cream at Corinth Square again did the hard work of creating the houses — a total of 74 this year, breaking last year’s record by nearly a dozen. Ballard spent a week baking gingerbread in the oven at her store, and then assembled the houses so they were ready for sprouts and septuagenarians alike to decorate.
The event raised more than $1,500, which will go to the Municipal Foundation’s Youth Scholarship Activity Fund, helping pay for tennis lessons, pool memberships and the like for Prairie Village kids who wouldn’t be able to afford them otherwise.
