Food on Friday: NEJC Christmas goodies
By Julia Westhoff
It’s officially the Christmas season, and for me that means binging on treats that are only available this time of year. Here are a few favorites:Eggnog: The day after Thanksgiving I run to the Hen House for that first carton of eggnog. I put it in my coffee every morning and pretend I’m at Starbucks. This year I took it up a notch and tried the nog from Shatto Farms and it blew my mind. Someday maybe I’ll try and make my own (I’d appreciate any recipes or advice). I also love the eggnog bread from Great Harvest.
Gingerbread: I’m a sucker for gingerbread, and I was thrilled to see that Dolce Bakery sells gingerbread cookies. Of course, the fact that they’re from Dolce means they’re almost too pretty to eat (almost). I’ll also get my gingerbread fix on Sunday when I take Olivia to make a gingerbread house at Mely’s. I’m not sure who’s more excited about it (actually, I’m sure it’s me).
Chocolate: Like most holidays, Christmas is simply an excuse to gorge myself on chocolate. From the high-brow European varieties at the Better Cheddar, to good old Russell Stover Santas at the Hen House, I am an equal opportunist chocoholic.
What are your favorite Christmas goodies?
