Prairie Village Einstein Bros. closes as construction of Standees restaurant/theater nears
A longtime Village Shops fixture has closed its doors in preparations for a construction project that will bring a first-in-the-nation eatery/entertainment concept to the center.
Einstein Bros. Bagels ceased operations at its Village Shops location over the holiday weekend, but representatives of the property owner say talks are still under way to try to find a new location for the popular breakfast and lunch spot at the shopping center.
Einstein Bros.’ lease on the space expires this month, after which crews will begin renovations to turn it and the adjacent suite that used to house the Macy’s Home Store into the first-ever Standees restaurant and movie theater concept.
Standees, a restaurant and movie theater combination that will target adults, will have a 240-seat eating space and three 85-seat theaters. It is anticipated to open in May 2013.
As for Einstein Bros., LANE4 Property Group’s Trip Ross says the company is “still pursuing options to relocate them within the center.”
