Food on Friday: Giving the bird to Thanksgiving
By Julia Westhoff
Jay and I have several friends whose families celebrate Turkey Day in a bit of a contrarian way: They go out.
When I first heard that some folks eschew the traditional dinner, I thought it was kind of crazy. You can’t go out for Thanksgiving dinner. That’s un-American! (Right?) But eventually I realized it was kind of genius.
Think about it: You still have the excuse to stuff yourself silly, but there’s none of that cooking and cleaning that takes up precious football-watching and couch-napping time.
If you are thinking of eating out on Turkey Day, be forewarned that almost all of our local restaurants will be closed. Thankfully (ha ha) there are a few options if you’re looking for something different or just need to get out of the house:
Blue Moose: Opens at 6 pm. Full menu.
4160 West 71st Street, Prairie Village.
Yia Yia’s: Open from 11-4. Special Buffett.
4701 West 119th Street, Leawood.
Houlihan’s: Normal hours and menu at the Leawood location. (Note that the Fairway location will be closed).
4900 West 119th Street, Leawood.
