Mission police are investigating an early morning shooting that left a University of Kansas Hospital employee dead.
The shooting occurred at 7:14 a.m. in a parking lot behind an office building at Broadmoor and 58th Streets, just a couple of blocks north of Johnson Drive and immediately south of Broadmoor Park.
The male employee was confronted in the parking lot as he stepped out of his car and was shot several times by another male, according to Mission Police Captain David Maloy. The attacker left the lot in a medium blue Ford Fiesta with Illinois license plates and headed north on Broadmoor. Police are still searching for the suspect. There were several witnesses present in the parking lot who witnessed the shooting. The were being interviewed by Mission police at mid morning and the building and lot remained sealed with police tape.
The office building is leased by the University of Kansas Hospital and houses a call center and IT and medical records departments, according to hospital spokesperson Jill Chadwick. She said the hospital uses approximately two-thirds of the building and has 250 employees at the site. The hospital this morning is bringing in counselors for hospital employees.
