Defending 1-4A champ Kansas City Christian moves to soccer quarterfinals
Let’s kick it, PV. Because we are at the nucleus of high school soccer awesomeness.
SM East isn’t the only boys soccer team making a deep push in the post season.
Defending 1-4A state champs Kansas City Christian beat Baldwin in a penalty kick shootout Tuesday, earning a spot in the quarterfinals. KCC, 9-6-4 on the season, will meet 15-3-1 Tonganoxie in the northeast quarterfinals.
KCC and Baldwin were scoreless through the first half, and Baldwin took a 1-0 lead with roughly 26 minutes to play in the second half on a Nick Joslyn goal. But KCC’s Patrick McEldowney found the goal with 8:26 to play, tying the game.
The teams played thirty minutes of scoreless overtime soccer before heading to the line for a penalty kick finale. KCC scored on all three of its tries, and blocked all of Baldwin’s shots.
UPDATED: Thanks to Baldwin soccer fan Chris for sending in this corrected info on the shootout:
