Briarwood 3rd graders stir up fun at annual chili cookoff
Big thanks to Briarwood mom Laura Brown for passing along photos and this note about last week’s big Briarwood chili cookoff:
Briarwood Elementary School 3rd graders held the school’s 12th Annual Chili Cook Off last Thursday, October 11th. PV Mayor Shafer was in attendance as a chili judge, along with SMSD Superintendent Dr. Gene Johnson, PV Officer Olson, former KC Chiefs player Walter White, Mely of Mely’s Yogurt, Briarwood Principal Dr. Peach and former teachers from the school. Each 3rd grade class at Briarwood is responsible for coming up with a team name and selecting a chili recipe. The students then prepare the chili in class, and the school’s courtyard is turned into a Country Western Scene by parent volunteers. At lunch time all the 3rd grade classes and their guests join together in the courtyard for chili, cornbread and all the fixins. The judges taste the chili prepared by each class and vote for their favorite. The competition is fierce but it is all for fun, and this year Mrs. Newbold’s Chili Dogs claimed the trophy.
