Lancers golfers win state, netting second title of the season for SM East

The finale to this fall sports season is off to a remarkable start for the Lancers.

The SM East sports program notched its second state title in as many days Monday when the girls golf team won the KSHSAA State Girls Golf Tournament at Rolling Hill Country Club in Wichita.

Anne Willman’s score of 78 was best among the Lancers, and put her at fourth overall in the individual competition. But consistent play by the rest of the team, Sophie Wetzler (who shot 85), Jessica Young (89), Kelley Tomlin (91), Anie Foster (98), and Alex Maday (98), helped the team edge out second place finisher Maize by five strokes.

In last year’s third place team finish at state, Willman shot a team best 81.
