A business idea born by two local moms watching their sons on the sidelines of a playground is enjoying success after opening for business at the Fairway Shops this summer.
Hoopla manicure and pedicure studio held its official ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday. It’s been open since July.
Owners Molly Maxwell and Megan Thornberry are friends who met through their young sons and decided to go into business together. The two started exploring ideas, trying to come up with a business concept that would be both exciting to them and fill a local void. Their answer? A nail salon that offered “super hygienic” manis and pedis free of five chemicals typically found in polishes. Hoopla customers get to hand pick their own Hoopla polish and take it home after their appointment.
“This is an idea that was hatched on the playground,” Maxwell said. “We wanted to have something fun — hence the name “Hoopla.’”
The business, located near the intersection of Shawnee Mission Parkway and Belinder Avenue, accepts walk-in customers. In addition to manicures and pedicures, it offers waxing and chair massages.
