Have a few items you would like remove from your house, but that could be treasures in someone else’s home? Tomorrow is your chance to deliver them for the SM East SHARE annual garage sale.
SHARE is the community service program at SM East that involves nearly 1,000 student volunteers in more than 70 projects. Both SHARE and the fund-raiser garage sale are student run.
The drop-off tomorrow will be in the senior parking lot on the south side of the school from 9 a.m. to noon. No toys, items that plug-in or furniture (liability and space issues). The actual sale will be October 6 in the SM East gym. With the exception of a small ’boutique’ everything sells for $1 and at 1 p.m., the bag sale starts and anything that fits in a contractor’s bag goes for $10.
SHARE director Pat Kaufman shared a couple of stories from last year’s sale:
“Our volunteers take large purchases to our customers’ cars. Last year our guys offered to take a ladies’ 3 contractors bags to her car. At first, she was hesitant, but then she relented. She was living in her car with her two young children. Quite a lesson for our youth! Then there was a nice gentleman who was looking for golf clubs. He’d lost his job and was losing his home. He was having a garage sale of his own and thought that having golf clubs in the sale would make his sale more attractive. Unfortunately, we were out of golf clubs. One of our students said he thought he had some “old” golf clubs in his car. He walked with the nice gentleman up to his car and gave him several “old” clubs. For us, it’s not just a garage sale, it’s a lesson in gratitude.”
So, pack up those items you can live without and bring them down to the school in the morning.
