Highlands’ Hawk Night Flight hits streets of Fairway Friday

Tonight is the annual Highlands Elementary Hawk Night Flight fun run that covers a two-mile course that winds through the Reinhardt neighborhood in Fairway, starting at Fairway Park at 62nd and Mission Road.

The run starts at 6 p.m. Late registration will be open from 4:45 to 5:45 p.m. The run, a yearly fundraiser, will be followed by a dinner in the park prepared by the Highlands Dads Club and a DJ and dancing.

Mission Road will be closed down briefly between 61st and 62nd street to accommodate runners and walkers when they leave and return to the park. There will be some minor traffic disruption in the neighborhoods during the run as well.

Money raised this year again goes to funding PTA-sponsored programs and resources like Spanish instruction, additional aide time, full-time library staffing, Blue Stem tutoring, which offers intensive learning assistance to students needing an extra boost. In addition it funds other teacher resources and PTA programs that benefit the families and community like Reading Week and the Bike Rodeo.

The event lasts until 8:30 p.m.
