SM East’s boys and girls cross country teams put in a strong early season showing Saturday at the Topeka West meet.
On the boys side, senior Chipper Jorns took first place out of 40 runners with a time of 17:23.84, a pace of 5:36 per mile. Senior Joe Bahr took third overall at 17:52.44 and sophomore Will Moore rounded out the top ten at 18:20:27. The boys took first place as a team, beating out Seaman Academy, Topeka West, Leavenworth and Topeka High.
For the girls, senior Tieran Shank and junior Annie Kuklenski put in the best performances, finishing fourth and fifth respectively at 16:40.52 and 16:45.34. Sophomore Hannah Arnspiger finished tenth overall at 17:08.44. The girls took second place as a team, finishing behind Topeka High.
