Weekend downpours outpace entire summer’s worth of precipitation
What a difference two days makes.
The steady, often heavy rains that blanketed northeast Johnson County Friday and Saturday yielded 4.81 inches of accumulated rain — more than the area saw during the entirety of June, July and the first 30 days of August.
A total of 1.91 inches fell on the area Friday. On Saturday, another 2.9 inches fell.
For comparison, a total of 2.24 inches fell in all of June. We got just .85 inches in July and .59 inches in the first 30 days of August.
Though the heavy rainfall was a gift to parched yards and trees, it posed concern to many local homeowners. Dry conditions had pulled the ground away from the foundations of many homes, making them more prone to flooding with heavy rainfall.
