Felled power line sparks grass fire on Mission Road in Prairie Village

Stiff breezes appear to have knocked a tree branch into a power line support beam near 67th Street and Mission Road this afternoon, felling a live wire that sparked a grass fire.

A Prairie Village police officer at the scene said the blaze was quickly quelled, though dry grass allowed it to spread across approximately 50 feet of a homeowner’s yard.

Police and fire crews had traffic blocked in both directions as they waited for a power line truck to remove the live wire from the possible path of traffic.

No one was injured in the fire and the only damage done was to the yard.
