Angela Bertocchini says she knows just how hard it can be to find a daycare center where parents feel comfortable dropping their kids off.
“I’m a mom, and I’ve shopped around for childcare myself,” she said. “I know what it’s like to struggle to find that place that has an opening for your child, and where you feel comfortable leaving them.”
Those feeling were among the motivations for Bertocchini to open the Premier Learning Early Childhood Eduction daycare center at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, 9100 Mission Road.
Premier opened its classrooms to little ones on Monday, and Bertocchini says enrollment is approaching 15 students. Ultimately, the space will have capacity for 42 students: six infants, five toddlers, seven 2 year olds, and 24 3-4 year olds.
A former T-Mobile retail store manager and K-State graduate, Bertocchini said a passion for working with kids motivated her to complete childcare coursework at Johnson County Community College and open her own facility.
“In Prairie Village and Leawood, there aren’t a ton of childcare options — partly because the areas are built out, so there’s no room to build a new facility,” she said. “But that’s what attracted us to the area and to the church. We think we’re filling a bit of a void.”
