Burglars make spree of unlocked vehicles near 77th and Roe

Lock those cars at night, Villagers.

Prairie Village police report that a burglar or burglars hit a string of unlocked vehicles in the neighborhood a quarter mile west of SM East between Sunday night and Monday morning, culminating with the theft of a 2004 Chevy Silverado pickup.

Police investigators took half a dozen reports Monday from residents near 77th Place and Roe Avenue who awoke to find their cars had been broken into. Several had items missing from their cars, including digital audio players, GPS devices, wallets, cash and gift cards. All of the vehicles were unlocked.

Police Chief Wes Jordan said a similar string of incidents occurred in the vicinity of 78th and Booth Streets last week, but investigators do not know at this time whether the burglary sprees are related.

The Silverado was taken in the 4700 block of 77th Terrace. It is black with a Kansas license plate numbered 974-BJE.

Anyone with information about the incidents should contact the Prairie Village Police Department at 913-642-6868.
