Vandals spray paint playground equipment at Franklin Park
More than a year and a half after Prairie Village police filed charges against a group of minors responsible for a wave of graffiti attacks around Corinth Square, vandals have hit the park just a few blocks away.
Several pieces of the playground equipment at Franklin Park had white spray paint tags on them Sunday. The city spent approximately $1,000,000 on extensive park and playground renovations there that were opened to the public in 2011.
Police Chief Wes Jordan told the Prairie Village City Council earlier this year he anticipated that one of the minors most heavily involved in the fall 2010 graffiti attacks may make an appearance before the council to publicly apologize for his actions. The city ended up spending $8,400 in November 2010 alone to clean up the graffiti.
